One of the reasons that Evolve makes it easier to play games online with friends is because of the virtual private network (VPN) adapter installed by our Party system.
We became aware of a vulnerability in our VPN this morning, and are working on fixing it.
In very simplified terms, malicious users can intercept and modify the traffic of people inside of the party.
We are currently working on a way to keep this from happening. In the meantime, you should follow these guidelines:
- Only join parties with people you know and trust.
- Shut down any other Internet enabled software on your computer before joining a VPN, especially if that software transmits your username, email address, password, etc.
- Do not conduct any sensitive transactions on your machine while connected to a virtual private network adapter. This applies to Evolve’s VPN, but also to any other service that offers similar functionality.
We will make another blog update when a solution is implemented.
